Kebbi State

 

Kebbi state is implementing only the Skills for Job (S4J) component as a result of its late entrance coming barely nine months to the end of the programme.The total number of 219,102 Vulnerable Household have been captured across the six (6) LGA’s, while 932,460, poor individuals were captured in Social Register (SR). Out of the total number in the Social Register in Kebbi State, 672 youths were mined in two LGA’s of the State which are Gwandu and Jega LGA’s, 582 from Gwandu that is 463 Males and 119 Females. 90 from Jega with 65 Males and 25 Females making a total of 672, 400 youths were verified and documented in the two LGA’s 342 from Gwandu and 58 from Jega, making 400. Gwandu Male 263 Female 79 Jega Male 45 Female 13 Total male 308 Total female 92.

 

Kebbi is a state in north westNorth West Nigeria. Its capital is Birnin Kebbi. The state also listed among the 10 states that have the highest poverty rate in the country. Its rating is 86.0% by the United Nation Poverty Index. 

 

Kebbi State is one of the new states that keyed into the project, titled Youth Employment and Social Support operations (YESSO).

 

The aim of the YESSO project is to target the poorest of the poor and vulnerable groups using a time-tested community driven exercise tagged Community Based Targeting (CBT). The (CBT) process triggers the community into selecting poorest of the poor among them in an open transparent manner. House hold selected are captured into a Social Safety Net Register, Social Register (SR) for the purpose of mining potential beneficiaries of intervention in human capital development. So, the Kebbi State Social Register covering, six (6) LGA’s two in each senatorial district, namely; Kebbi Central which have Gwandu and Jega, Kebbi South, have Danko Wasagu and Shanga, Kebbi North, have Bagudo and Dandi.

0n 30th September 2019 kebbi state skills for job (S4J) was flagged off at Waziri Umaru Ffederal Ppolytechnic. After the flag off, 3 days orientation was carried out from 30th September – 03rd October 2019, and 10 days life skills training was also conducted from 4th to 17th of October, 2019. Different facilitators were invited and motivational speakers, including NDLEA officials were invited to talk about the danger of drug abuse. The Life Skill Training afforded the trainees the opportunity to know the different skills available for them to choose from and the derivable benefits of each skill.

 

The trainees were exposed to the different skills and were made to know the advantages of each skill. After the life skill training, the sector specific training was also conducted for 20 days which spanned from 18th October to 14th November,2019, 2019. During the sector specific training, the trainees went through practical aspect of the skills of their choice. This was done after they have chchosen the skills they want to specialize and practice as a business/vocation of their own. It is important to emphasize that all the stages outlined in this programme are meant to prepare the trainees to be self-reliant.

 

The next important stage after Sector Specific Training was the Entrepreneurship training. This training spanned 20 days (15th September to 12th December,2019, 2019).  The training is aimed at inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship in the trainees. The last stage of the programme is internship. The trainees were attached to Private Sector Operators (PSO’s) to practically under study the skills chosen and understand the nitty - gritty of making it an established business. In order to certificate the interns after the programme, the trainees were sponsoredmade to sit for NABTEB Modular Examination.
